Alex & Co.

My first encounter with a hurricane was back in 1989 when Hurricane Hugo hit the coast of South Carolina and blasted through the small town of Goose Creek, where I lived at the time.  Huddled in the bathroom with my family while the winds ripped through, I heard tree limbs breaking and what sounded like 100 trains barrelling through my neighborhood.  I prayed I would never have to brave another hurricane again.

However, last month, I was surprised to learn that the remanants of Hurricane Ike would be making their way through Indiana on a day when I had photo shoots scheduled.  Thankfully, Hurricane Ike was minor compared the last hurricane I experienced, but there was still a lot of huddling involved– this time by Alex’s family, who had made a special trip to Lafayette for this session.  Here there are braving the storm underneath an awning (see the rain on Aaron’s shoulders):

Here’s Alex and his Grandpa, checking out the rain:

Once the rain picked up quite a bit, it became apparent that an outdoor shoot was not going to work, so we moved to Plan B:

So you can see, that despite the hurricane, Alex still had a happy day with his grandma and grandpa :)

Winner, winner, pizza dinner!

April was the winner of my recent contest and she already had her photo shoot scheduled before she found out she won.  I have been photographing her family for the past 4 years and it’s always a joy to see how her kids Lizzie and James grow and change from year to year.

We headed outside several Saturdays ago for the shoot and the weather was gorgeous, but Lizzie decided that she was a star and I was the paparazzi chasing her:

James was a little sleepy, so he hung out with his dad, Chris:

James and Lizzie’s grandma came along for the shoot, too.  Here’s 3 generation the lovely ladies:

A fun moment with April, Chris, and James:

April asked if I could take a few of Lizzie in her uniform just in case she wanted to play star/paparazzi again for her upcoming school photos. :)

After the shoot, it was getting late, the kids were hungry (Truth be told, I was also hungry) so we decided to head back to my house for some pizza.  Lizzie and Liam are about the same age and they get along famously.  Here they are on their “first date” :)

A great cause, a fun event

I recently met Kamie during a photo shoot I did for an upcoming project I’m working on (more to come on that later)  She was a model for the shoot and she told me about the foundation she is involved in– The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation.  They are holding a Mary Kay Style Show and silent auction from 6:15 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13 at the Faith Community Center.  All proceeds benefit the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation to support women’s cancer programs. Tickets are available for $10 each and can be purchased at Two Tulips, in downtown Lafayette.

If you attend, you can bid on a Portrait Package from yours truly in the silent auction :)
